My March Instagram theme and how to manage it.

I love photography, so Instagram is definitely my favourite social platform. I love scrolling through bloggers’ feeds, they all look so glossy and professional. I learned a lot watching others and I still have a lot to catch up with, but I do my best!

I decided to try something a little bit different to make my profile look nice, so this month I tried to post three pictures in a row, instead of just one, with the same theme. My pictures all together look nice and I think following a theme for three pictures in a row is way easier than sticking to one single theme for ALL your pictures.

If you fancy trying it, I have some tips I try to follow when I want to build my line of pictures:

Untitled-1– Keep the same background and change the main subject of the photo. It’s important to keep the same color/brightness/size and overall settings for each picture to make it look exactly the same except for the main subject.

– While keeping the same color theme, post your main subject in the middle picture, and use the other two as an “additional background”, snapping two very similar, less detailed photos. (see my last Instagram line with the teabags)

– When taking a selfie, post your three best shots. They will have the same background, lighting and makeup/hair/outfit look. We all know we take hundreds and then delete the most horrible ones gradually until we get our favorite. This time stick to your top three.

– If you really like THE picture you took, post it with different filters.

– Again, when taking a selfie, strike the same pose and change only one detail that makes the photo pop up. It may be the lipstick, your earrings or something you’re holding.

– Take three totally different pictures but keep ONE recurring important detail: it may be a flashing color or the same accessory.

I will say this is a bit of an effort and definitely more difficult than snapping here and there, but I want to see for how long I can go doing it because I am really enjoying it and I feel with this I am boosting my creativity. I’m not completely satisfied with how it looks yet but I’m getting there!

What do you think? Do you find it annoying when someone posts 3 pictures in a row or you don’t mind? Do you think it’s nice to go to someone’s Instagram and find a feed like this?

What’s in my bag – March 2016

Here I am again with my addiction to productive organisation! You all seemed to love my last ‘What’s in my bag’ post, so I decided to write another, since I switched bag and changed a bit my ‘departments’.

I must say I freak out every time I change bag, because I never know how to fit all I want in, and even if I can, I soon get annoyed by the fact that the bag is exploding, ruining its shape. Because of that I always look for very rigid and robust bags, with pockets and both shoulder and arm handles. This one is from Accessorize and it’s my latest purchase.

Now, have a look inside!

DSC_0145Tech stuff: In a little pouch I store wires, earphones, a phone charger and… my beautiful mirrorless camera! I wasn’t sure if it was necessary for me to always carry a camera around, but then I thought that photography is one of my favourite hobbies, so there’s really no reason why I should stop myself if I want to start snapping around everywhere I go, right?

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESEmergency Kit/Various Lifesavers: tissues, makeup wipes, regular wipes, mints, lip balm, hand sanitiser and my super useful emergency kit, which I already wrote about on my last What’s In My Bag post.

Essentials + Extras: wallet, keys and phone, as always, and the makeup bag, same one I showed you on my last post (link above). A water bottle, because I am finally getting into the healthy habit of drinking more water. A TINY pencil case and my small planner, which I already showed you in my Planners Heaven post. A hair clip, because the longer hair the more annoying they are, and, lastly, my glasses case.

Does it seem a lot? It probably is! I am vey happy with it though, I finally found something that works for me. Stuff does not move around too much, it doesn’t take 3 hours to find my car keys and I can have all I need with me!

What are you currently carrying in your bag?

Planners Heaven

Have I said how much I love stationery yet? Probably 10 times already. I also need organisation in my life and planners are exactly the right compromise between lovely pieces of paper and planning. I tried using my phone but I just feel it’s not as satisfying as handwriting and doodling.

I spent quite a lot of time looking for the perfect planner, and I still think I have so much to learn about them. I could not be happy with just one, so I am currently using three different planners… too much? Maybe. I’m using all of them but for next year I will try something different. Maybe a big one, maybe making my own.. We’ll see!

For this year here’s my final arrangement:

  • The Happy Planner: you probably have seen this a lot around, it’s quite popular and the nicest I could find. I love that you can get a lot of different add-ons for all your needs, I love the quotes and the graphic. I leave this at home as my “big planner”, I use it to plan my days, my studying and my goals. It also has a great section before each month where you can write down birthdays and events, which is very helpful.
  • Small Weekly Planner: this one is a limited edition for one of the biggest book stores here in Italy and I was lucky enough to find it in time because it has exactly what I needed. I wanted to have a little planner to pop in my bag everyday, kind of like a calendar. I used this a lot when I was in high school to plan my daily tests and now I use it for various appointments and meetings.
  • Blog Planner: I made this myself from a nice plain notebook divided in sections. I designed the cover on Photoshop and I frequently switch it around when I get bored with it. I decided to use the sections in this order: blog photography planning, blogpost ideas, tips and tricks for bettering the blog, and finally various extras.

Do you like using planners?

February Playlist

Why have I not done another of these music posts since December? I love them! Spotify changed my life, and I really enjoy putting together a playlist for each month! You will see I mix a lot of genres, even though they have nothing to do with each other, just because I like beautiful and good things, not depending on their specific kind.

Here’s the music I’ve been playing on my road trips during February:

  • Confident – Live from Spotify NYC, Demi Lovato, Spotify Sessions
  • Cathedrals, Jump Little Children, Magazine
  • The Light She Brings, Joep Beving, Solipsism
  • Stone Cold, Demi Lovato, Confident
  • Hands To Myself, Selena Gomez, Revival
  • Faded, Alan Walker, Faded
  • Royalty, Conor Maynard, Royalty
  • Talking About, Conor Maynard, Talking About
  • YOUTH, Troye Sivan, Blue Neighbourhood
  • BLUE, Troye Sivan feat. Alex Hope, Blue Neighbourhood
  • Impossible, James Arthur, James Arthur
  • human, Christina Perri, head or heart

Anything you can relate to?

Keep the good music up,

Desk Organisation and Decor

I’ve always had a thing for stationery and pretty desks. My desk is the place where I spend most of my time at, between studying, blogging and relaxing.

I recently changed my organisation a bit, so I thought I’d share it with you!

I like to have everything handy around me without feeling cluttered, so I got those little baskets to store most of my stationery, two cups for pens and pencils and a mini drawer containing wires and chargers. I also keep a mason jar with water or the occasional ice tea.

! Most exciting thing and life-changing hack: THAT. IS. A. FOLDABLE. LAMP. I’ve had a super annoying bedside table lamp on my desk for ages and I couldn’t stand it anymore, especially having that long wire around me all the time. This is tiny, convenient and easy. You need to read, you open the lamp. You are on your laptop, you fold the lamp and forget about it, saving space.

What are your favourite things to keep on your desk?

A clean desk for a clean mind,

What’s in my bag – University Edition

I recently struggled a lot trying to find a bag that I could use for both university days and days off.   I don’t like having to move my stuff around from bag to bag everyday, it also scares me because I may miss something important and leave it at home (like my monthly train ticket – that would be awful). A couple of days ago I found this beautiful bag from H&M and I think it’s perfect for both uses: it’s big enough to carry my notebooks and laptop or iPad for Uni days, and I can use it as my everyday bag. I just put in the Uni-extras and I’m ready to go!

Here’s what I keep:

Student Stuff.

DSC_0173Here I have my iPad, my notebook and a pencil case I got from H&M with all I need to study and attend classes. Sometimes I like to take my laptop with me instead of my iPad, especially on longer days when I could use it to write blogposts more easily.

Makeover Bag.

DSC_0178Everything I need for a quick stop in the bathroom – from makeup to hair to ‘girls stuff’.  Along with hair ties, pads, blisters, a nail file and deodorant wipes I carry the following makeup:

Emergency Kit.

DSC_0180You never know what you may need, right? I like to always be prepared, so here’s what I always keep in this little pouch:

  • Moisturising Cream Sample
  • Various tablets – from headaches to travel sickness I have something for it.
  • Eye drops
  • New pair of contact lenses – in case my glasses decide to abandon me or in case I need to rock a full face super extra magical makeup in two minutes time
  • A sewing kit. Yes, you read right, a sewing kit. You don’t want to walk around with ripped pants, do you? Well it did happen to me once. I was lucky to be able to run into my car and drive away, but you may not have the chance to. So, for future necessities, I got what I could need to save my dignity.

Various Essentials.

What all of you have in your bag – with some little more bits and pieces.

  •  Wallet – of course.
  • Mints
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Lip balms
  • Hair clip
  • Ear phones
  • Tissues
  • Phone (more frequently found in my pockets)

And this is what I need ready to grab. If you dig more into the remote places of my bag…

  • Power Bank – modern smartphones won’t survive a full day of usage from early morning to late night
  • Makeup removing wipes – when I’m on the train going back home I feel like my face is exploding: refreshing is always good
  • A calculator – I love  the science I’m studying but I can’t wait to get it over with the math and the physics
  • Glasses case with magical lens cleaner spray

DSC_0186Since I travel a lot with trains and tubes I need something to keep my mind on: I either carry a book or my kindle, depending on what I’m reading at the moment.

Here it is! Now, I know it may seem a lot, but I have to say I really like the organisation I’ve come to with my bag. It took a while to decide what works best with me, but I think I found it!

Let me know what you like to keep in your bags!

My Photography Kit

I never knew I could fall in love this much with photography. I just happened to be put in a Photo  11 class while I was in Canada as an international student. At first I shot some bad stuff – I mean, I didn’t have a clue on how to use a reflex and above all with the MANUAL mode! I was just so lucky to have a wonderful teacher who I remember with a lot of affection: he taught me so much and now I can manage to shoot almost everything I want and HOW I want.

With a photography addiction comes a great love for cameras. During the last couple of years this is what I got:

Nikon D3100

I got this in October 2013 while I was taking the class. It’s the same camera my school had available for students and I learnt how to snap with this, so it seemed right to get the same one. I have the 18-55 lens kit – the basic one – and I found it okay so far. I would like to step it up some day and get a better lens, but for now I am good.

Fujifilm Instax

I know you all know this one! It’s just fun and I couldn’t resist getting one. The film is quite pricey but I just save my instant pictures for special occasions, like holidays or moments I really want to remember.

Samsung NX3000

My most recent purchase! This is a mirrorless camera, so basically you get a really good image quality but the size of the camera itself is not as huge as a reflex. Also you can switch up the lenses and Samsung offers a great variety of them. I am fascinated by the technology of this, which I made my research on, and I was looking for something with a flip-up screen and wi-fi connection. I carry it with me everywhere I go! Another awesome thing is that it’s not as expensive as other mirrorless cameras around, so yeah, you probably understand that I am super excited about it!

You can clearly see that I got one camera for each kind, they are all different in some way and each one of them has something beautiful to add to my collection. I am very pleased with them and I frequently use them all!
